Dr. Spector was born and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in biology at the University of Vermont in 1977. He then attended the University of Maryland Dental School earning his doctorate in dental surgery degree magna cum laude in 1981 while gradating second in his class. Dr Spector then completed a residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. in 1984. Following residency he was in private practice for 25 years in Towson and Owings Mills until joining the Maryland Center For Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2009. He frequently lectures to various local dental-related groups and has spoken nationally and internationally on topics ranging from dental implants to cosmetic facial surgery. He recently had an article titled “Computer-Aided Dental Implant Planning” published in the October 2008 issue of the Dental Clinics of North America.
He is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon (diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery), fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and member of numerous national professional dental organizations including the American Dental Association, the Middle Atlantic Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Maryland State Dental Association.
Dr. Spector is the current vice president of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He is a member of the Dean’s Faculty at the University of Maryland Dental School and is the Division Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Franklin Square Hospital Center.
On a personal note, Dr. Spector enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, traveling, and hiking. He is an avid road cyclist, having ridden his bicycle across the country in 2005. He has two grown daughters, Bethany and Amanda. He resides in Glen Arm, Maryland with his dogs Emily and Charlotte, and Siamese cats Simba, Sushi, and Bamboo.
