Dr. Schwartz was born in Colorado Springs and raised in Denver, Colorado. He received his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Colorado in 1977 and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor fraternity. He then attended Northwestern University Dental School earning his doctorate in dental surgery degree in 1981 while graduating first in his class. Dr. Schwartz came to Baltimore and was an assistant resident in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1981 to 1982. He then completed his residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1985. He remained at Johns Hopkins until 1987 where he was an assistant professor of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program. Dr. Schwartz has served as the principal investigator in numerous research studies involving the development of pain medications. Baltimore Magazine has noted him numerous times as one of the areas outstanding oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
He is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon (diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery), fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and member of numerous national professional dental organizations including the American Dental Association, the Middle Atlantic Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Maryland State Dental Association.
Hobbies and interests include boating on the Chesapeake Bay, traveling, skiing, tennis, and wine tasting.
He enjoys spending time outside the office with his lovely wife Elisa and two sons, Ryan and Evan.
